Ken Smith – Editor
The last four issues have been another great team effort and I’d first of all like to thank you, our readers, for continuing the VMX journey with us – much appreciated. Thanks also to all our wonderful contributors and advertisers from all around the world! There were so many standout bikes, events and people in the last four issues that it’s hard to single out any for extra attention but here we go:
Issue 76 – the lovely Bultaco Alpina that had been so lovingly restored by John Berry really looked a treat, as did the ’86 and ’88 KTM 350 GS models owned and restored by Adrian Goold. Fabulous bikes and I even got a short ride on one of them and it had a magic motor I have to say. Issue 77 – Chippy’s Kramer Maico was a cracker with an interesting history and still on the Germanic front, Part 1 of the Victoria motorcycles feature was a very interesting historical piece. It never ceases to amaze me how much I don’t know about some of our dirt bike history!
Issue 78 – How can you go past that cover bike, the 1972 Honda RC125M. What a significant machine and they really don’t come much tricker. It’s always a privilege to feature any of Terry Good’s works bikes. Dave Coupe’s very good looking ’92 Honda CR250 also really made an impact.
Issue 79 – The two little Italians, the ’82 Gilera 125 C1 and the ’81 Villa MXA 125, stood out for their good looks and rarity. It is always great to be able to bring such varied bikes from all over the globe to our pages. Then there was the cover bike and indeed the cover shot – in the snow! Yes, not much more than an hour out of Sydney and I found myself photographing Ken Lindsay’s very sweet CR500 in a snowstorm. That was a new experience and yet the photos looked perfect. You never know what’s coming in the next issue, it’s often as much of a surprise for me as it is for you but you can be assured there’ll continue to be a great mix of eras, brands, events and people as we’ve always had in VMX Magazine.
All the best for Christmas and the year ahead!
